January 27th, 2018

Hello Nordic Folk!

The snow keeps coming and trails are in great shape! We hope you are all hitting stride with your season, and we want to thank-you for supporting the RNSC. We want all of our members and guests to enjoy their experience in the outdoors (or indoors at our lodge), and we can’t run our club without your support. Here’s the news for the weeks ahead:

Strategic Planning Survey: 5 days left to have your say!

We want you to help shape the direction for our club in the years ahead so don’t forget to provide your input in the strategic planning survey before the end of the month. The survey will take about 15 minutes of your time, and it will ask you about your thoughts and your priorities for the future of the RNSC. Thank-you for your input in the process. You can use this link, or go to www.revelstokenordic.org for more information. Please share this link with your family members and friends who might like to provide their input in our survey. Thanks!

Free Rentals for U16 Continues in February

The RNSC is happy to announce that we are extending our free-rental program for youth aged 16 and under. Come out and try skate or classic skis and get to know the fun of Nordic skiing! Tell your friends!

Team Scream is February 10th

Check out the information poster, and pre-register for the race with our online form. As you can tell by the poster (thanks, Rob Buchanan!), this is a super-fun, free event for all club members.

The RNSC is hosting BC

The RNSC is hosting the BC Midget Championships on March 3 and 4, 2018. This is a provincial level 2-day race that draws approximately 250 young athletes and their families from all over the BC. To help you with your planning, the RNSC wants you to know that it will be a very busy weekend at the club and the parking lot will probably be full. We will be sending out more details about the weekend as the dates approach. If you want to be part of our volunteer squad and help with the race, please email Natalie MacLeod at [email protected]

See you on the trails!

Nordic News: Jan 21st, 2018

January 21st, 2018

Hello Nordic folk!

Welcome to all our members, young and old, new and legacy.  We hope that you are having a great season so far, and we want to remind you that all of the Nordic News emails are posted on our website along with many other items.

Strategic Planning Survey:  Deadline is Jan 31st!

We want you to help shape the direction for our club in the years ahead so don’t forget to provide your input in the strategic planning survey before the end of the month.  There is a link to the survey on the homepage of our website,

The survey will take about 15 minutes of your time, and it will ask you about your thoughts and your priorities for the future of the RNSC.  Thank-you for your input in the process

Headlamp Heroes: No Race this Week!

There was a Headlamp Heroes race scheduled for this Wednesday, but the January 24th race has been cancelled.  It is exam week for all of our high school students and Matt, our head coach extraordinaire and HH host, is away at the World Juniors in Europe supporting Canada’s XC athletes.  We may find a date in March to reschedule this race. The next two HH Races are February 7th and February 28th.

Parking

The RNSC is aware of some of the pressures on our parking lot.  For the time being, we want to remind members that we should have 4 ‘lanes’ for parking in the main portion of our parking lot, two outside rows and two rows of cars in the middle.  We also want to thank-you for car pooling when you can.

Dog Incidents

The RNSC is a dog-friendly club with one of the best dog loops in the province.  We also have a user-enforced dog policy to ensure that our trails are enjoyable for all members.  If you ever have difficulty with a dog (in the parking lot or on our trails), please let the lodge manager know.  For this or any other issue, you can email [email protected]

We also hope that you have read the RNSC Dog Policy, especially if you have a dog that enjoys our trails.

BC Midgets: Volunteers Needed!

The RNSC is hosting the Midget Championships on March 3 and 4, 2018.  This is a provincial level 2-day race that draws approximately 250 young athletes and their families from all over the BC.  Midgets is a race for skiers ages 9-12 with a focus on participation and FUN!  In addition to a classic interval race, skate sprints and a dress-up relay race, there will be an athlete lunch and awards banquet.  This large-scale event requires tremendous volunteer support.  We will need approximately 70-80 volunteers each day and we would love it if you could lend a hand.   Please email Natalie MacLeod at [email protected]

Free Rentals for Youth Under 16

Free rentals continue until the end of January.  We hope this will encourage more young people to have fun on skis.  Please share this news with your friends.

Enjoy your January!

Cheers!

RNSC: Help us plan the future

Here is the text of an email sent out to members past and present:

January 1st, 2018

The RNSC wants to wish you a Happy New Year.

If you received this email, you are currently a member of our club or you have been part of the RNSC in the past.

As an RNSC member, you have used (and hopefully enjoyed) our trails, our lodge, and facilities. You also may have some thoughts about why you joined, what your experience was like, what our club priorities should be, and how we might make our club better.

We are asking you to take 15 minutes of your time to fill out a survey that will help us with our strategic planning. This is your chance to help us chart a course for the club in the years ahead.

Please share this survey with other members of your family or your Nordic friends who might like to give their input as well.

Click the red circle or this link to start the survey.

We thank-you for your thoughts and for your time.

Sincerely,

Jeff Wilson

December 26th, 2017

With January approaching, the RNSC wants to wish you all the best in 2018.  The lodge has been busy, and the upper level trails are in great shape.  If you’ve come out for a ski –day or night– we hope that you have enjoyed your time on the trails.

If you still don’t have your season’s pass, the membership registration link is available on Zone4.  Click here to purchase your pass online: Zone 4: Membership.  The RNSC will be giving away two BC Nordic Punch Passes on January 1st to two lucky members.  If you have purchased your season’s pass already, your name will be automatically entered in the draw.  If you don’t have a membership yet, you have until December 31st at 5:00pm to join the club and have a chance at winning some free Nordic skiing at clubs around BC.  Here is more information about the BC Punch Pass.

Headlamp Heroes

Once again, we will be running our Headlamp Heroes Wednesday Night Race Series! These fun events are great opportunities to suit up with others in a laid-back, supportive environment. What you lose in dignity, you’ll make up for in chili and draw prizes! Thanks to our generous event sponsors: Village Idiot, The Modern, Skookum and Flowt.

Events will be held on the following Wednesday evenings: December 27th, January 24th, February 7th, February 28th . Be sure to write these dates in your calendar.

Our first event this Wednesday December 27th will be a Classic Interval Start w/ distances of 2.5km, 5km and 10km. The Village Idiot will be providing delicious chili to snack on! Cost is $2. Registration is from 6-6:30pm and racing gets underway at 7pm.

Please note: With the early-season conditions, the classic tracks on the lower trails are a bit rough for racing.  For our first race on the 27th, we may choose an alternate route so if you’re a hero bring a good headlamp.  🙂

RNSC: Treasurer Wanted

Money!!  It’s important!  The Revelstoke Nordic Ski club Board of Directors is seeking a treasurer to take care of the club’s money.  It is is a lot of work, but being the treasurer provides a real opportunity to meaningfully contribute to the club.  If you think you can help us out, please contact [email protected]

Looking Ahead with the RNSC

With a growing membership and infrastructure, we are at a crossroads.  Should the club invest money in more lighting for night skiing?  Do we want to upgrade our trails so we can host races at a provincial level?  Do we want more social events at the lodge?  How about high-elevation trails?  Or do we want to broaden our membership demographic?  It would be nice to be able to do all of these things and more, but the reality is resources are limited, and we have to set priorities.

To help us establish our priorities, the board has initiated a strategic planning process and we are going to want to hear what you think.  We want to know where, in your opinion, should the club should be putting its energy and money.  Start thinking!  In the New Year we will be distributing a questionnaire to the membership, and the more thoughtful input we receive, the better the plan should be.  We look forward to hearing about what you think!

We hope that you have an enjoyable holiday season and we hope to see you on the trails.

Thanks for supporting the RNSC in 2018!
