Games
Bubble Run: Bring a big container of Bubble Soap mix and wands for the coaches. Then let clouds of bubbles fly and have the kids chase them on their skis.
Thousand Steps: Skiers try many little steps rather than big ones. Ask them to use certain number of steps to get from one point to another. Bring the number down as they improve. Change directions. Count with them.
Hokey Pokey: The skiers stand in a circle and sing to the tune of Hokey Pokey: “You put your right ski in, you take your right ski out, and shake it all out. You do the HokeyPokey and turn yourself around…” Then repeat with different parts of the body. Then finish with everyone sliding into the center of the circle for the one last rousing round.
Silly Ants – a silly falling down game that young kids love (instructor calls “Silly Ants” and skiers have to fall down on their backs and wave their skis in the air)
Magic hoops (like musical chairs, group skis around hoops set into the ground kids have to ski under a hoop when leader calls out stop, but make sure that there are enough hoops so that no one is “out”).
Red light green light
What time is it Mr. Wolf
Duck Duck goose (Only on warm days, too much standing for cold days)
Save the stuffies/ Squirrels and Nuts: Two Hoops that make up "stashes". Squirrels transfer the stuffies from one hoop to the other. Practice balance/ pick up/put down.
Corn Hole
Parachute
Biathlon (target + ball to throw)
Pool noodle tag: kids vs parents. Parents try to avoid kids, kids try to tag them with noodles - then switch
Pond and shore: Have skiers sidestep into the tracks (the pond) then ski to a set of cones. Have skier sidestep out of tracks (onto the shore) and duck walk back to start (be sure to have the skiers stepping in and out of tracks on both sides).
Twinkle, twinkle little star: each time you sing “star” skiers do a star turn
