Saturday Jan 31

Goal: endurance, speed and agility, grooming knowledge

9:45 - 10 Group Game - No poles

Clothes Pin tag

This game is played in a designated game play area delineated with cones. Each player has 3 clothespins attached to them at the start of the game. Once you lose all your pins you are “out”, but try to steal more pins from other players before you lose all of yours. Once all but three players have lost their pins start another round. The last three standing start with only 2 pins each next time, but everyone else gets three to start again

10ish - 11:45 Split into age groups

We’ve got a variety of stations/ activity this week, so please try to adhere to your schedule listed below! We will be doing the following:

Grooming Shed Tours: Bruno and Kyle will be giving tours of the grooming shed, and teaching about grooming, the cat, the sled, the ginzu, etc. Please arrive at your scheduled time!

Endurance Ski: focus on uphill endurance and strategies to conserve energy. Adjust route as needed to make it to the next activity on time - suggested routes listed in the group schedule!

Little Dippet Obstacle Course: This course will be set up prior to the session. Please be familiar with the list of activities before you arrive. Find the start and finish, do a lap with the group going over what is happening at each spot, then split them into pairs to do as a head-to-head race/challenge. If they dont want it to be a race, they can choose to do the course on their own instead.

  1. Start at top/west end of JR flats with one ski off

  2. Scooter - Hurdles for JR3 and 4, pool noodles for JR 1 and 2 Hold ski in other hand

  3. Put ski back on (at bottom of JR flats)

  4. Downhill pickup - pick up a beanbag from the side of the trail down from jr flats

  5. Carry + “basketball” throw through hoop midway up the hill

  6. DH free glide with track obstacles (downhill at top/west end of lil dip)

  7. DH slalom - down the hill to finish at top of JR flats. (Will also make a slalom down the adventure trail leading down to the west end of JR flats if older groups want to try that)

  8. Hockey stop to finish for older groups or snowplow stop for younger groups

If there is extra time, the older groups might want to do a couple laps of some of the newly groomed adventure trails near the top/west end of little dippet.

11:45-12 Stickers & Hot Chocolate

Use your judgement to hand out stickers for SDP booklets. Try to give stickers as a group, so if you worked on a skill today, or know that they can all do a specific skill, hand out that one! A good one for this week could be to count up stickers on their group posters, and hand out “skiing often” stickers.

If any kids missed getting their toque last week, you can hand them out

This is a great time to let them know about the Nordiq Canada Toque design contest. I have printed out the contest application sheets to hand out - they are in a folder in the top right corner cubby
